Here's the latest round of appointments from Governor-Elect Andrew Cuomo:

Dr. Nirav Shah
Nirav R. Shah, MD, MPH will be nominated to serve as the Commissioner of the Department of Health. Dr. Shah is Attending Physician at Bellevue Hospital Center, Associate Investigator at the Geisinger Center for Health Research and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Value & Comparative Effectiveness at NYU Langone Medical Center. He is an expert in use of systems-based methods to improve patient outcomes, a leading researcher in use of large scale clinical laboratories and electronic health records to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of care, and a nationally recognized thought leader in the very methods needed to transition to the future of lower-cost, more patient-centered, health care for the 21st century. As a general internist who cares for patients at Bellevue Hospital in New York, Dr. Shah knows first hand the impact on vulnerable populations of inadequate resources. To improve the health of vulnerable as well as the general population, he conducts research and development to improve care both in the public hospital system of New York City and in the rural, aging population of central Pennsylvania's Geisinger Health System. Dr. Shah is originally from Buffalo, and is an honors graduate of Harvard College, received MD and MPH degrees from Yale School of Medicine, was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at UCLA, and a National Research Service Award Fellow at NYU. He serves on the editorial boards of medical journals, has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles, and has received over $4.5 million in research funding. He lives in Battery Park City with his wife Nidhi Shah, and two children.
Paul T. Williams Jr. will be recommended to continue as the Executive Director and President of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. Mr. Williams is currently the Executive Director and President of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. Prior to entering the public sector, Mr. Williams was Senior Counsel at Nixon, Peabody LLP, after serving as President and Vice Chair of Toussaint Capital Partners for three years. From 1998-2006, Mr. Williams was a partner at Brian Cave LLP. During that time, Mr. Williams also served as the President of the New York Metropolitan Chapter of 100 Black Men for America. Mr. Williams was a Founding Partner at Williams & Harris from 1982-1998. From 1980-1984, Mr. Williams served as a Counselor in the New York State Assembly, after beginning his legal career as an Associate at Walker & Bailey from 1977-1982. Mr. Williams currently sits on the Moynihan Station Development Corp and the Eagle Academy Foundation.

Sabrina M. Ty will serve as Deputy Secretary of Legislative Affairs. Ty currently serves as Legislative Counsel to the Speaker of the New York State Assembly, responsible for overseeing the development of all major programmatic legislation and directing a team of 90 program and counsel staff in all legislative negotiations. Ty also plays a lead role in annual budget negotiations -- particularly in the areas of education, higher education, economic development, MTA and DOT capital, public authority financing and bonding. A member of the Assembly staff since 1995, Ty served as Deputy Counsel, Legislative Coordinator and Associate Counsel to the Assembly Education and Higher Education Committees prior to becoming Legislative Counsel in 2007. A graduate of Albany Law School and McGill University, Ty began her career as an attorney at the law firm of Couch, White, Brenner, Howard & Feigenbaum and later served as a government relations representative for the New York State School Boards Association. She lives in Clifton Park, New York, with her husband and son.
Linda A. Lacewell will serve as Special Assistant to the Governor. Ms. Lacewell is currently Special Counsel to the Attorney General and head of the Attorney General’s Healthcare Industry Taskforce. Linda was initially appointed in April 2007 as Counsel for Economic and Social Justice. Ms. Lacewell spent nine years prior as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York, including two years on detail to the Enron Task Force of the United States Department of Justice.
