Top cop Ray Kelly to get another job after Andrew Cuomo taps him for public safety transition team

Besides overseeing the largest police force in the country, Ray Kelly will lend a hand to Cuomo.

ALBANY - The city's top cop will play a key role on Gov.-elect Andrew Cuomo's transition team, the Daily News has learned.
Cuomo has tapped Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly to serve on his public safety transition committee, a source close to the incoming governor said.
"When it comes to keeping New Yorkers safe and secure, Commissioner Kelly is second to none," the source said.
The committee - which will also include former Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Zachary Carter - will recruit and recommend people for administration posts that have public safety and law enforcement responsibilities, including counterterrorism.
"Public safety is pivotal to economic stability and so many other aspects of life. It's a distinguished panel and I'm happy to make whatever contributions I can," Kelly said.
Cuomo will formally announce the public safety committee's membership as early as today.
Cuomo began to roll out his racially diverse and bipartisan transition team Thursday, just two days after the Rev. Al Sharpton told the Daily News he had serious concerns about the lack of diversity within Cuomo's high command.
The transition team is led by Lt. Gov.-elect Robert Duffy, with Rep. Nydia Velazquez, who is Hispanic, and former Controller Carl McCall, an African-American, named as two of four co-chairmen.
Carter, who is black, was U.S. Attorney from 1993 to 1999.
