A Siena Research Institute poll released this morning found that an overwhelming majority of state voters are at least somewhat optimistic that Cuomo, who takes office Jan. 1, can fix he state's budget mess and boost job creation.
"Fresh off his victory over Carl Paladino, 64% of voters have a favorable view of Andrew Cuomo, compared to 26% who view him unfavorably, his best favorability rating since May," said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg.

Creating jobs, according to Siena, is the top priority for 48% of state voters, and 75% of voters - including 65% of Republicans - are least somewhat optimistic that he will be able to do so.

Balancing the budget is another top priority for state voters and 59% are at least somewhat optimistic that Cuomo can solve the state's projected $9 billion deficit, according to Siena.
Voters, however, are split on whether their lives will get better during the next two years - 41% say quality of life will improve while 44% say things will stay about the same. Fourteen percent expect things to get worse.
Voters also want Cuomo to prove himself in New York before he considers running for the White House.
"Only 11% of voters like the Cuomo presidential speculation," Greenberg said. "An overwhelming 85%, including 79% of Democrats, say they don't like the speculation because Cuomo needs to prove he can succeed as governor first."
Siena also found that voters have had their fill of Buffalo bomb-thrower Paladino.
Sixty-eight percent of voters -- including a majority of Republicans -- view Paladino unfavorably and 58% want him to disappear from the political scene, according to Siena.
